Meet Dr. Jennifer Tamai
Dr. Jennifer Tamai was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. A graduate of Punahou School and the University of California, San Diego, she earned her medical degree from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at LAC + USC Medical Center and her Gastroenterology fellowship at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. After years of training on the mainland, she returned home to serve the Hawaii community she grew up in, bringing with her a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate, and efficient digestive care.
Her practice focuses heavily on colon cancer screening and prevention, especially for busy adults who are completing their first colonoscopy after a recommendation from their primary care physician, family history concerns, or growing awareness of preventive health. She also manages a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions including esophageal and stomach disorders. Her procedural expertise includes colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and polyp detection and removal. Her approach emphasizes clarity, efficiency, and trust—ensuring patients understand each step and feel confident throughout the process.
Dr. Tamai is dedicated to making care as straightforward and low-friction as possible for patients balancing demanding work and family lives. Most patients come in not because they feel sick, but because they know it is time to take care of something important—and want a clear, guided process to get it done right. She treats each patient with the same respect and care she would extend to her own ʻohana (family), and she is deeply grateful for the support of her own family, who continue to inspire her both personally and professionally. Outside of medicine, she enjoys exercising, traveling, spending time with family, and exploring new foods.
Our Mission
Nestled in the heart of the Hawaiian Islands, our mission is to provide exceptional gastroenterological care that is clear, efficient, and deeply patient-centered, rooted in the vibrant spirit of our local community and guided by three core values.
We primarily serve busy individuals and families in Hawaii who are often balancing demanding professional and personal lives, and who need a straightforward, low-friction path to preventive care—especially colon cancer screening and endoscopy services that are timely, well-organized, and easy to complete. Our goal is to remove unnecessary complexity so patients can confidently take care of their health and move forward with peace of mind.
1. Patient-Centered Clarity and Access
We place our patients at the center of everything we do by creating a care experience that is welcoming, respectful, and easy to navigate. We prioritize clear communication, simplified instructions, and efficient coordination, so patients feel informed and supported at every step—not overwhelmed by the healthcare process. Each patient is treated as a valued individual and an important part of our extended ʻohana.
2. Clinical Excellence and Precision
We are committed to the highest standards of medical expertise, diagnostic accuracy, and procedural excellence. Our focus on colon cancer prevention, endoscopy, and gastrointestinal health is grounded in evidence-based care and continuous professional growth. We strive not only to deliver excellent outcomes, but also to ensure that care is timely, appropriate, and dependable for both patients and referring providers.
3. Compassion with Purpose
We recognize that many patients coming in for colonoscopy or GI evaluation are not sick—they are simply taking an important preventive step, often for the first time. We approach this with compassion that is calm, reassuring, and practical. Patients are supported both emotionally and clinically, with a focus on reducing anxiety and making the process feel manageable, organized, and safe.
These values reflect the culture and spirit of Hawaii, where care is personal, relationships matter, and trust is earned through consistency and respect. We are also guided by professional integrity, continual learning, and a strong commitment to preventive care—especially in helping patients complete recommended screening without delay.
Through thoughtful coordination and a focus on simplicity and efficiency, we aim to provide care that not only treats illness but prevents it—offering clarity, confidence, and long-term health to the communities we serve.
